Borderlands 3 - Dungeon Zones

Sure, we have linear Point A to Point B zones, and other zones are open, but what happens when you do a zone that is Point A to Point B, with a boss at the end of the zone. The Dungeon Zone feature as illustrated in this Blog Post will explain more about the usefulness of this feature.

Today's Borderlands 3 Post is About:

  • Dungeon Zones

Today's Post is about Dungeon Zones. What appears to come from other RPG style games, a Dungeon Zone is a pre-scaled location that has an increased chance to drop loot and has a more linear approach then open. Not all zones have this functionality, but this should make it more entertaining and cooperative.

What do Dungeon Zones Do?
  • A specific location with a timer, like the Challenge Modes of Missions.
This works alongside the Challenge Modes however instead of requiring 1 person to start, it will require 5 people in a lobby to start.
  • Provides an increased chance of dropping rare loot.
This encourages online co-op modes more, similar to Defend Missions and Endless Defend Missions.
  • Provides a Cooperative style Challenge Mode instead of Mission Challenge Mode.
This is good because Mission Challenge Modes only work on solo. If in a lobby, you will be phased to the mission and can still talk to your other lobby friends, but you will not see them during the mission. (Identical to GTA V Mission Medals)
  • Dungeon Zones are replayable, and also have the option of having Badass Rank upgrades.
This works the same way as Tower Zones, except in a different format.
  • Different scaling for Normal, TVHM and UVHM.
Yes, because each difficulty has different scaling for difficulty. It's good for the game.

Where are Dungeon Zones?
  • Dungeon Zones are found in all Point A to Point B areas that aren't open.
This is true, except for a few zones.
  • Dungeon Zones cannot be attempted unless you've beaten the Episode's story.
Yes, because this is an optional thing for replay value. You can't just do the same zone over and over just for the chance at rarer loot, it should be done as a side mission near the end of an Episode so you have many things to do in-game.
  • Can't Dungeon Zones be attempted with less then 5 people?
There may be a way to do between 2-5 people (solo Dungeon Zones make absolutely no sense) but for now, the concept of this is aimed at 5 players.
  • Name a location that will be a Dungeon Zone.
In World 2, when your traversing the Unknown Caverns (Natura World), that becomes a Dungeon Zone. There are room for many others that are (optional) or required, but some zones you go through during your quest for loot and saving the galaxy are Dungeon Zones.
  • Do you earn Badass Rank / Tokens for beating Dungeon Zones?
There will be a category for this, and one for Mission Challenges also. I guarantee it - otherwise what other reason (except for higher chance of loot) would you need Dungeon Zones?

Are you posting more?
  • This topic seems too short. I want more ideas.
This is a hard topic to go into detail when I haven't described the worlds yet, or the story - there will always be more about a certain topic when it is available.
  • Community Dungeon Zone challenges?
Like how #TheLootHunt4 ran? I'm pretty sure there can be something done like that, but nobody knows how far technology can go - we are only in 2015, and there is room for many new technology advances in 2016 onward!

Yeah, this post felt like it was rushed, but it wasn't - it is just that I cannot go too far into detail without explaining some of the zones. In July, you will see posts for individual zones, and posts for how character advancement and customizations can be done. But for now, we have a long way to go to make the Big One (Borderlands 3) so big, that most other games will need the same idea to be the last entry in the series...
