Borderlands 3 - Lootable Objects & Treasure Chests
What's better in Loot for a huge game called Borderlands 3, to do:
This concept is fairly obvious so...
Today's Borderlands 3 post is about:
Always contains blue items at most - also more rare then Red Dahl Chests, as they probably only appear in 1 or 2 areas on a specific location, and require it to be hard to get to - whether it is in a Boss Room, or other locations.
Gold Dahl Treasure Chest *new*
Always contains purple items at most - Ultimately rare, only acquired through Tower Challenges and other means, these can never be farmed and you must get time to unlock these. Also can contain Pink quality items and Light-blue quality items at a higher rate.
Hyperion Locker (Yellow)
Same as White Treasure Chest except uses the same model from Borderlands 2.
Hyperion Locker (Red)
Same as Red Treasure Chest/Red Dahl Treasure Chest, and uses the same model from Borderlands 2.
Hyperion Locker (Black) *new*
Uses an identical model to the Pre-Sequel in Claptastic Voyage, and also always contains blue items at most - also very rare to find these items.
Pirate Chest
Found in most pirate settlements around the worlds. These will contain any item (including whites) and can also contain items (customizations, Eridium, Moonstone, etc.)
Eridium Chest *New*
Costs 20 Eridium Bars to unlock. These purple chests can be encountered anywhere in the world after you unlock the SDU vendor - These will always contain blue items, with a higher chance at purples and oranges. But, finding the 20 Eridium Bars might not make your investment worthwhile?
Moonstone Chest *New*
Costs 50 Moonstone to unlock. These light blue chests use Moonstone to unlock - and they will contain various items, including a very rare chance to get Dahl Capital Ship Blueprints.
Golden Key (Small Chest)
Costs 1 Golden Key to unlock. Always contains one purple item and one blue item. Small chance to get any Unique from these chests. Golden Keys are only acquired through the ShiFT program, and are attained through many forms of social media.
Golden Key (Mega Chest)
Costs 15-25? Golden Keys to unlock. Has a very high chance of containing Legendaries or Pearlescents.
Lootable Objects
This concept is fairly obvious so...
Today's Borderlands 3 post is about:
- Treasure Chests
- Lootable Objects
- What can be improved from BL2 to BL3
A big concept to the game is Lootable objects and Treasure Chests in Borderlands 2. Therefore, today's post which replaced my previous post (due to the huge amount of work and not to mention it won't go well with the June posts) comes this concept in Borderlands 3.
Treasure Chests
As in Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel, Treasure Chests are lootable objects that generally always contain items or weapons always. However, in Borderlands 3, there should be the following types, as well as what could be contained in each one:
White Treasure Chest
Same as Borderlands 1 & 2 - This contains the standard items (up to Purple quality). Also has a chance to contain cash drops and Moonstone items. No Eridium Bars can appear in these chests. Also, the White Treasure Chests are fairly common in most major reasons and city locations.
Red Treasure Chest
Same as Borderlands 1 & 2 - These also contain items (up to Legendary Quality). These do not contain pink quality items, and have a chance of getting Relics, Moonstones and Eridium Bars. They also contain a variety of weapon styles.
Green Dahl Treasure Chest
Works the same as Borderlands 2, however also contains a chance to get customization items of all types of buildings/vehicles/characters (up to Purple quality). This makes it so White Treasure Chests and Green Dahl Treasure Chests don't always contain the exact same loot styles.
Red Dahl Treasure Chest
Same as Red Treasure Chest but contains a higher chance for customizations.
Silver Dahl Treasure Chest *new*
Always contains blue items at most - also more rare then Red Dahl Chests, as they probably only appear in 1 or 2 areas on a specific location, and require it to be hard to get to - whether it is in a Boss Room, or other locations.

Lootable Objects
- Mini Chest - Always contains 1 Eridium Bar, 1 Moonstone Chunk, or Cash.
- Small Safe - Always contains 1 Eridium Bar, 1 Moonstone Chunk or Cash.
- Green Chest - Contains 6 different ammo types in a chest. Or, sometimes also contains 6 cash drops instead.
- Ammo Barrel - Contains up to 3 different ammo types in a chest.
- Mini White Locker - Contains either 3 cash drops or a random pistol (up to purple)
- Locker - Contains health pickups, random pistol or SMG, or cash drops.
- Vase - Identical to Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. Contains a large amount of ammo and sometimes a drop, including Customizations and stuff. Breakable with melee or gun shots.
- Purple Chest - Always contains 1 Eridium Bar, not as common as Mini Chests or Green Ammo chests.
- Pirate's Ammo Chest - Only found in Pirate encampments. Can sometimes contain live grenades or cash drops.
- Blue Chest - Always contains 1 Moonstone Chunk, not as common as Mini Chests or Green Chests.
Eridium Bar = 1 Eridium Bar
Eridium Stack = 4 Eridium Bar
Eridium Pile = 10 Eridium Bar
Moonstone Chunk = 4 Moonstone
Moonstone Cluster = 16 Moonstone
What should be improved to Borderlands 3 from Borderlands 2?
- Lootable objects more focused (either via Badass Rank Challenges) or in general, good types of loot. Most players, especially near the end-game always ignore lootable objects because it wastes time and all the players would skip the items in an effort to get to a boss faster. With new treasure chest styles it will make things better.
- If Lootable objects had customization items. Having them exclusive as drops is ok, but there needs to be an incentive to always open them.
- They should have a higher chance to encounter an item higher in tier. For example, a Gold Dahl Treasure Chest should have a higher chance to drop a pink or legendary. This doesn't always happen.
- An Eridium Chest. Not only used for SDU upgrades, but what happens when you are capped at Eridium and have all the tier upgrades? Having them in chests help reduce the need to stockpile always.
- The ability to drop Eridium Bars & Moonstone - What happens if a player has a lot of Eridium, and doesn't have anything to help. Cash drops are plentiful, that should not apply to Cash dropping at all.
- No dropping of Moxxi Tickets, Golden Keys or Seraph Crystals player to player. Each player must acquire their own but if they are in a lobby, Moxxi Ticket and Seraph Crystals drops will be given to all players in the same lobby. Golden Keys are only ShiFT profile specific!
This was a key point to be covered in Borderlands 3. It needs more ideas and I am out to try to prove that Borderlands 3 could have those ideas. I don't accept "We don't have another Borderlands in us" as a reason.
Next post June 14, covering Sanctuary in Borderlands 3, and what I think should be done on it.
